We’re on Substack!
‼️Calling all Black feminist writers/artists‼️
Black Feminist Collective is an intergenerational group of Black feminists and womanists who stand for Black liberation in its entirety. The mission of this independent, volunteer-based site is to create a global, intergenerational community of Black feminists and womanists who have a shared goal of creating a better world for Black people through political education. Since May 2017, we have shared speeches, personal reflections, resource lists, artwork, scholarly works, commentary and analytical essays from a Black feminist perspective.
On July 13, we announced the launch of our upcoming quarterly newsletter as an ode to our strengthening community. This newsletter is a continuation of our space to uplift voices and cultural work rooted in the Black feminist tradition. Each quarter, we will post a reflection prompt for people who are interested in sharing their work on it. This fall, our reflection prompt is:
“Activism, art and film are three mediums used by Black feminists and womanists to raise awareness about the experiences of Black women and the community in its entirety. A few examples that come to mind are Nikki Giovanni, Ava DuVernay, Beah Richards and Angela Y. Davis. How have their creations impacted you?”
We are seeking visual artwork and written essays created by Black feminists that engage with this reflection prompt. Accepted formats include short essays, poetry, films, photography, design, paintings, and digital artwork. Newsletter submissions are due on Sunday, September 14. Until then, our submissions form can be accessed here:
The official launch date of our newsletter is on Sunday, September 28. Any questions regarding newsletter submissions can be sent to bfcnewslettersubmission@gmail.com. Please allow two days for a response.
Thank you for your continuous support of Black Feminist Collective since its creation. We look forward to welcoming people to our evolving community of Black feminist writers and artists.
